Sudan, it is...

Traveling through the DRC on the Congo River has been ruled out by persistent unrest in Mbandaka following the airport seizure and retake a few weeks ago. The Spanish tourist that was taken hostage on a boat near Mbandaka en route to Kinshasa has been released however NGO's are suspending their activities in the area.

Yesterday we got our visas and permits for the Sudan. We plan to travel by road from south to north Sudan. UN reports no incidents and the roads seem to be passable at this time although the rainy season threatens to start early this year. We will travel to Juba in the next few days where we will assess the conditions ahead. a backup plan will be to put ourselves and our vehicles on a barge sailing north on the Nile.

We hope to write another update in Juba, where after communication will be sparse.
